Every year Franschhoek residents, and visitors (yay), get dressed up in white, red and blue and wear berets (it’s the only day of the year you can get away with it) in commemoration of their forefathers. There is lots of eating, drinking, dressing up, walking about. So we’d like to say this is another winner for us.
The festival has a bit of history, and has been going for years, but we’re more interested in the good times to come.

The storming of the prison fortress La Bastille in 1789, is seen by historians as the turning point in French history and the beginning of what became the French Revolution.
An entire weekend is set aside to indulge in all manor of delectable food and fine wine, which sounds like reason enough for us to get back out of town, and into the Franschhoek valley.

As you can see, people get dressed up and walk down the street - amazing!
