Wasabi specializes in Asian cuisine. This sushi lovers paradise is found in the Old Village which is part of the Constantia Village Shopping Centre in Constantia situated just 15 minutes from the Cape town CBD.

Summary

As the name suggests, Asian cuisine is the order of the day. This sushi lovers paradise is found in the Old Village which is part of the Constantia Village Shopping Centre in Constantia situated just 15 minutes from the Cape town CBD. The restaurant has been set up so the flow of the simple but elegant interior flows seamlessly through to the charming indoor courtyard which it shares with a few neighboring restaurants.

Inside the restaurant you will find dangling from the ceilings a beautiful surrounding of huge lanterns & shell box light’s which contribute to the elegant but warm atmosphere.

The sushi bar at Wasabi

The Food

To start I would highly suggest some Dim Sum as these delectable treats will wet your appetite ever so slightly in preparation for meal ahead but there is a great selection of other starters available.

If you are into your raw fish, the sushi is not to be missed. Be warned though that it doesn’t come cheap but is worth every penny. If sushi doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, then there is a wide range of other Asian dishes available including salads, steaks, lamb, ribs and noodles.

If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, you are sure to find something on the dessert menu that will fulfill your dessert needs. These include a mix of marshmallow, chocolate, fruits and delicious ice cream.

Overall

If you are in the mood for some really great food and are not afraid to splurge a little then Wasabi is a must try. The service is tops and the warm lighting inside makes Wasabi a warm and welcoming location for an evening out.

The welcoming lights that hang inside the restaurant

Parking and Directions

Parking is not a problem at Wasabi as it is located at the Constantia Shopping Mall where parking is readily available. Booking would probably be advised on weekends and public holidays.

To find Wasabi get on the M3 South from Cape Town. Take the Wynberg, Plumstead, Constantia turnoff. At Stop Street, turn left into Constantia main Rd. At the second set of traffic lights you will see the Constantia Village.Take a left into the shopping centre & follow the singnage to WASABI.

Franschhoek Bastille Day means dressing up, eating, drinking in Franschhoek. Sounds like a winner to me!

Every year Franschhoek residents, and visitors (yay), get dressed up in white, red and blue and wear berets (it’s the only day of the year you can get away with it) in commemoration of their forefathers. There is lots of eating, drinking, dressing up, walking about. So we’d like to say this is another winner for us.

The festival has a bit of history, and has been going for years, but we’re more interested in the good times to come.

The storming of the prison fortress La Bastille in 1789, is seen by historians as the turning point in French history and the beginning of what became the French Revolution.

An entire weekend is set aside to indulge in all manor of delectable food and fine wine, which sounds like reason enough for us to get back out of town, and into the Franschhoek valley.

As you can see, people get dressed up and walk down the street - amazing!

The Two Oceans Marathon is a pretty big deal, and happens each year. This brings thousands of runners and spectators to one place, along with madness on the roads around the event.

The Two Oceans Marathon has a long history and is a big-bad marathon that happens each year in Cape Town. It’s basically a (long) running race that goes around Chapmans Peak Drive, through Hout Bay and covers routes through the Atlantic and Indian Ocean. So they call it The Two Oceans.

There are a few reasons you would want to know about the Two Oceans.

You’re running the race

You really want to watch the race – from the sidelines

You want to avoid the congestion and closed roads at all cost

So take note – if you want to drive anywhere around the Cape Peninsula on March 3rd 2010 – forget it. Head to the winelands, west coast, or stay at home in bed

Here is some info about the race.

History
Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon History since 1970
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon has earned a reputation as the world’s most beautiful marathon. The first race was held in 1970 and saw 26 runners line up to face the unknown challenge. Since then, the race has become a national institution and a firm favourite with local, upcountry, and international athletes.
Old Mutual is proud to continue its association with this great event, which is the premier event in their road-running portfolio. Participants can choose from various distances – the scenic 56km ultra marathon or popular 21km half marathon and the 5km or 2.5km fun runs. The event attracts close to 26 000 participants across all the distances and provides them with a mixture of breathtaking scenery, a gruelling test of fitness for both the elite and recreational runner, and an unrivalled race organisation and atmosphere.

Participants consistently vote it as one of the best in South Africa and it continues to attract strong fields and an increasing number of international entrants. The event has become synonymous with the Easter Weekend in Cape Town, with the pre-race activities at the expo, family day, and fun runs on Easter Friday. En-route entertainment on the race day provides fun, excitement, and a unique experience to runners, family, friends, and spectators alike.

We got the heads up from Diva PR about a this puppet festival and visual performance festival happening between 20th and 28th March 2010. Below is the official press release, which explains everything – leaving us nothing to say

The Out The Box Festival of Puppetry & Visual Performance is a visual feast of performances, workshops, talks, exhibitions and films that caters for adults and children alike. This year the event takes place at the Baxter Theatre Centre, The UCT Hiddingh campus in Gardens and the Labia Cinema on Orange Street.

For adult audiences, artists present their wildest and most beautiful imaginings in works using puppetry, projection, objects, multi-media and live performers. At the forefront of contemporary theatre worldwide, Visual Performance is about collaboration and experimentation. It departs from the spoken word into a sensory, evocative experience that explores the boundaries between performance and visual art. When the sun sets and the little ones are tucked in bed, adult audiences are invited back to experience something completely different. Included in the breath-taking line-up for the Adult Festival this year are international performance artists and contemporary dancers, Duda Paiva from the Netherlands with Angel and Edna Jaime from Mozambique with her provocative work, (Eu) peca de terra-II. Some of the local works featured are the groundbreaking Quack! by FTH:K ; Acty Tang’s Inscrutable and the acclaimed Mothertongue Theatre’s The Baggage of Bags as well as several new works by new and emerging theatre makers.

So often it is childhood that comes to mind when thinking of puppetry and those wanting a family theatre experience won’t be disappointed. This year The Out The Box festival has created a Family Festival programme of puppetry and visual performance from around the globe featuring both overseas artists and preeminent Southern African youth theatre practitioners like Ubom from Grahamstown and Arley’s Workshop from Durban and the remarkable Seka from Zambia.

An extraordinary range of shows are on offer, some that will appeal to the sophisticated tastes of older children and teenagers like Lennie and the Wasteland as well as well as shows that will cast a spell of wonder over the very young. Take a journey through Africa with Tales from the Calabash; Indlovu People; Taku and theRainbow Princess and Embo; or be inspired by stories from other parts of the world with productions like Oruk from Sweden, or Lost and Found from Canada.

Active Puppets Proactive training and development programme sees selected groups performing short pieces as part of Showcase with works created especially for the festival. Iqonga, Unima’s platform for experimentation in Visual Performance, features short form works by emergent theatre makers and performance art professionals. Moving Things, our film component, will be presented again this year with an exciting selection of stop motion and puppetry films at the Labia. Aja Marneveck will be convening a conference entitled The role of Women in the Development and Creation of Puppetry and Visual Theatre in Contemporary Performance.

For those who want to get more deeply immersed in the experience, a range of exciting workshops will be presented by specialists in the many diverse forms of puppetry, including a workshop by South Africa’s national treasure, Handspring Puppet Company.

Out the Box offers engaging professional entertainment that will fire the imaginations of children and adults alike. Tickets cost from R30 to R50 via Computicket with special offers for block bookings of ten or more. For more info please visit www.unimasouthafrica.org or call 021 462 5811.

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival only comes round once a year - don't miss out in 2010!

Nothing much to say here folks. Some of the best international Jazz artists hitting Cape Towns shores, good music, good times. Nuff said.

Here is the official word from the Cape Town International Jazz Festival website:

11th Annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival has grown into a hugely successful international event since its inception in the year 2000. Attendance figures have increased from the initial 14 000 to 32 000 in the last ten years.

Melodytrip has ranked this proudly South African event as No.4 in the world, outshining events such as Switzerland’s Montreaux Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland.

The festival’s winning formula of bringing more than 40 international and local artists to perform over two days on five stages has earned it the status of being the most prestigious event on the African continent.

Known as Africa’s Grandest Gathering, the festival which will be in its eleventh year when it takes place on Saturday 03 and Sunday 04 April 2010 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Once again Cape Town International Jazz festival will thrill loyal and new fans with world class music.

If you are not a football, and you want an excuse to check out the new Cape Town Stadium, check this out.

If you are not a football, and you want an excuse to check out the new Cape Town Stadium, check this out.

We’ve wanted a great excuse to get into the (formally Greenpoint Stadium) new Cape Town Stadium, and it looks like we have a winner. The Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival is kicking off (no pun intended) on Saturday 6th of Feb, at 4:15pm. Tickets are R120.

Here are the juicy details on Computicket:

Come and join the festivities as Rugby fans wait in anticipation for the Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival on February 6 where the Vodacom Stormers Super 14 franchise will take on a Boland Invitational XV at the magnificent new R4.5-billion venue. Adding to the fun day is a Rugby 10s match between a South African Legends side and an International Legends to be played as a curtain-raiser to the main event. The match will form part of the Castle Cape Town 10`s Rugby Festival that takes place on 5-7 February.

Update

For those that didn’t catch the game first hand, the Stormers beat Boland, and the final score was 47 – 13.
